02 Jun Getting to know the EMR
In addition to training, there are a variety of ways that are now available to support you to become familiar with the EMR. We’ve provided a breakdown below so you can make the most of these valuable opportunities to ask questions, provide feedback and ‘demystify’ the EMR and devices before Go-Live. New sessions are loaded onto our Events Page, but read on to get the most out of sessions that are designed to assist you to get to know the EMR.
EMR Interactives
No bookings necessary, just drop in any time during your relevant specialty interactive or a general session.
EMR interactives are a key familiarisation activity to support you in adopting the EMR. Interactives involve demonstrations of the new workflows that will come into effect at Go-Live, with the relevant devices you will use to access the EMR. These informal sessions are often focused on a specific discipline and are a great way for you to interact with the devices and ask questions specific to your work area and specialty.
Interactives have begun at Dandenong, Cranbourne and Clayton sites and will begin in early October for our remaining sites. The feedback has been very positive with attendees saying how useful it is seeing firsthand the functionality and benefits of using the EMR.
EMR Ward Walkthroughs
Identified clinicians are invited to undertake the Ward Walkthrough, but all are welcome to observe and contribute feedback.
EMR Ward Walkthroughs involve inviting specific clinicians to undertake a physical ‘walkthrough’ of a ward or clinical area and step through an EMR workflow that has been identified to be a significant change from current process. Ward Walkthroughs bring together the EMR, devices, clinicians and workflows in the work area where they will be used. These sessions are one of the ways we leave ‘no stone unturned’ in ensuring we are confident we have identified any gaps and changes to process or roles so we can smoothly and safely adopt the EMR at Go-Live.
Ward Walkthroughs are scheduled at all sites.
Portfolio Holder Sessions
Nominated Portfolio Holders are invited to attend regular EMR update sessions held across sites and relay information back to their teams.
Portfolio Holders are nominated individuals from each site who showed an interest in bringing EMR updates and information back to their teams. Portfolio Holder sessions give attendees the opportunity to provide feedback to the EMR Program from your clinical area and for the EMR Program to provide relevant information to be shared with you.
Portfolio Holder Sessions have been a regular event on the EMR calendar and sessions continue across all sites.
Ward Governance Leaders’ Device Workflow Sessions
Ward Governance Leaders are invited to attend these sessions held across sites and relay information back to their teams.
All Ward Governance Leaders are invited to EMR Device Workflow Sessions to learn about the new EMR workflows and devices. This gives them the opportunity to gain confidence in answering your questions. Following the sessions they can also relay key points to you around the different types of devices, delivery dates, care and maintenance and how to access the Practise Domain after training so you can use your new-found EMR skills prior to Go-Live.
This is a great way for Ward Governance Leaders to prepare to gain the full benefit of using the new devices before they are installed in their ward and work areas.
Device Workflow Sessions have commenced at all sites.
Practise Domain and Proficiency Scripts
All users will be able to logon to this domain and practise their skills in a guided environment.
The overwhelming feedback from our Dandenong and Cranbourne employees at Go-Live 1 was that there’s nothing better to consolidate your learning than practise, practise, practise! The EMR Practise Domain has accompanying ‘scripts’ to guide you through patient scenarios. Coupled with the Proficiency Guides, this provides a vital boost to your confidence in using the EMR. You can find the scripts and guides with instructions for their use here.
Favourites Fair
Medical and Nursing employees can book a session at ‘Favourites’ kiosks that will be set up at sites two weeks prior to Go-Live.
The EMR Favourites Fair is designed to assist in setting up customised views and preferences (‘favourites’) for our medical and nursing employees in advance of Go-Live. This includes configuring patient summary, workflow and quick orders pages, and creating favourite folders for pathology, radiology, medications and procedures.
The Favourites Fair also provides an opportunity for attendees to test their logon credentials and EMR access prior to Go-Live (in line with planned Logon Event for other employees).
Stay tuned for details of your site’s Favourites Fair which will appear on the EMR website. Favourites Fair will take place two weeks prior to your site’s Go-Live.
Logon Event
Everyone is invited to attend Logon kiosks that will be set up at sites two weeks prior to Go-Live.
The EMR Logon event is designed to ensure your account has been set up accurately and you can logon smoothly at Go-Live. This is a great Go-Live readiness activity that everyone should attend to reduce the chance of experiencing a logon error and to have the opportunity to set up preferences such as ward location pre-Go-Live.
Stay tuned for your site’s Logon Event which will appear on the EMR website. Logon Events will occur two weeks prior to your site’s Go-Live.
Our Events Page is already loaded with sessions run by our Engagement Team, Subject Matter Experts and Super Users. Look out for them in their light blue Support Crew or lime green Super User polos. More events are being added regularly, so if your site is not currently listed, it will be soon.
