Problem solving day key to EMR success

We’ve moved one step closer to the safe and successful launch of our Electronic Medical Record (EMR), with over 370 employees coming together to work through the new system at last week’s Change Enabling Workshop.

Representing all programs across Monash Health and a broad range of professions, participants worked in groups to understand how the EMR will integrate with their daily work, with a focus on identifying gaps and risks.

Facilitators and leads from relevant operational streams then worked with the groups to identify action items around how we will respond to and resolve these issues.

Working through mock scenarios also gave teams the opportunity to recognise how and when existing workflows and practices might need to change.

What participants said:

“It’s humbling being part of discussion that carries such weight.”

“When we arrived we were feeling anxious and worried about the risks, and we’re leaving feeling positive that we’ve reduced risk and have solutions to work on.”

“It’s good to see our senior leaders being very involved and listening to our concerns. They genuinely want to help.”

“We’ve come up with solutions today which I’m really encouraged about.”

“It’s exciting to generate outcomes together and have meaningful conversations between clinical operations and the EMR team.”

The workshop was an important part in helping our people feel confident and comfortable with how the new system will transform their day to day activities.

The EMR team is now collating information from the day and working through the action plans with relevant team members to ensure all risks and concerns are addressed.
